Autumn’s Golden Glow: September, October, November

The fall season in Bhutan is widely considered the ideal time to visit. The monsoon would have passed, leaving behind clear skies, bright, sunny days and crisp air, and the valleys are bathed in a golden light as rice paddies ripen for harvest. Nights are cool and pleasant.

The dry trails and clear weather create perfect conditions for outdoor activities. This bounty harvest season is also a time for vibrant festivals across the country, including the popular "Thimphu Tshechu Festival Tour."

Spring’s Floral Awakening: March, April, May

Spring is another peak season for travel to Bhutan. Valleys turn a vibrant green, and flowers, including over 46 species of rhododendrons, wild azaleas, and edelweiss, are in full bloom, making spring a paradise for nature lovers and trekkers.

Like autumn, spring hosts several major festivals. The Paro Tshechu, the nation’s most popular festival, is a highlight, featuring colourful mask dances and traditional performances.

When To Visit

While choosing when to visit Bhutan depends entirely on your travel desire, the kingdom offers four distinct seasons, each revealing a different facet of its character. Whether you seek vibrant festivals, serene mountain treks, or lush green valleys, we can craft a trip that aligns perfectly with your preferred time of the year to experience Bhutan. There is an ideal time for everyone for every journey at Drukyul Delights.

Summer is Bhutan’s monsoon season. The country receives significant rainfall, which nourishes the landscape, turning the mountains into a deep, refreshing green. The air is fresh, and the scenery is lush and vibrant.

While the rain can present challenges, travel is still rewarding. There are fewer visitors, creating a tranquil atmosphere for exploration. Outdoor activities are still possible in the western regions. However, long-distance travel, particularly in July, is not recommended.

Summer’s Green Refreshment: June, July, August
Winter’s Quiet Majesty: December, January, February

Winter in Bhutan offers a different kind of magic. Especially in the mornings and evenings, it is cold, but the days are typically sunny and clear, providing magnificent, unobstructed views of snow the -capped Himalayas.

With fewer tourists visiting the country during the winter, it allows for a more peaceful and offbeat experience. This also means you may find lower tour costs. While high-altitude treks are generally closed, the central and western valleys of Bhutan remain accessible.

Getting into Bhutan

The air journey is considered one of the most scenic flight experiences and also the most convenient way to reach Bhutan. Actually, your adventure to Bhutan begins before you arrive, offering views of the world’s highest peaks. Two airlines operate flights to Bhutan, Druk-Air and Bhutan Airlines.

Selecting the right connection is crucial for a seamless trip. There are three official ground entry points are Phuentsholing, Samdrup Jongkhar and Gelephu. These small towns can serve only as transit destinations and do not have many activities for you to engage with. We recommend these routes for an overland journey only if you are combining your Bhutan trip with India.

Travel by Air

Under the banner "Druk-Air", this national carrier operates flights to Paro Bhutan from Bangkok in Thailand, Delhi, Kolkata, Bodh Gaya, Guwahati and Mumbai in India, Kathmandu in Nepal, Dhaka in Bangladesh and Changi in Singapore, among others.

Royal Bhutan Airlines

Bhutan Airlines

Travel by Land

Bhutan Airlines, a privately owned airline company, operates two aircraft with a capacity of 126 passengers, including 12 business class seats and 114 economy class seats. The airline operates daily flights from Bangkok to Paro via Kolkata and three flights a week from Delhi via Kathmandu.

Phuentsholing in the south west of Bhutan is approximately 170 km away from the Indian National airport in Baghdogra, to the border town and to the capital city is another 4-hour drive through the subtropical regions.

Gelephu in south-central Bhutan is another point of entry into Bhutan for visitors. It is approximately 250 km from the capital city, Thimphu, which takes about 8 hours, crossing three districts of Bhutan.

Samdrup Jongkhar, in the eastern part of Bhutan. Approximately 150 km away from the Guwahati airport, it takes you through the regions in the east, crossing Tashigang, Mongar, Bumthang, Wangdue Phodrang and Punakha districts, and requires a minimum of three days to get to the capital city.
